Austin, TX, United States (AHN) – Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, especially when it comes to unattractive men themselves. A new study finds that unattractive guys looking for a quick hookup are more likely to overestimate how attractive women find them. Researchers from Williams College and the University of Texas-Austin, took 96 men and 103 women, all undergraduates, and put them through a “speed date” scenario. The men and women completed surveys rating themselves on attractiveness and their desire for a short-term sexual encounter. They then conversed with five members of the opposite sex for about three minutes each. After the meeting, they rated the partners on physical attractiveness and how interested in them sexually the partner appeared to be. Among findings, to be published in the journal Psychological Science, were that men who were looking [...] Continue Reading…

Mexico (AHN) – A laser treatment developed by Stoma Medical’s Dr. Gregg Homer can turn brown eyes into a permanent “dreamy” blue in about 20 seconds. Homer explains that the laser only effects pigment on the eye’s surface and that the frequencies used are absorbed by the dark pigment on the iris, so there is no danger of eye damage. Experts however warn that the procedure may not only damage the eye, but could take sight away altogether. Brown eye pigment helps prevent problems such as glare and double vision. Zapping away the color could leave the eye with no way to control light getting in. Homer began testing on cadavers. He then moved his operation to Mexico, where he says there have been no evidence of injury so far. Seventeen short-sighted patients have been offered lens transplants in return for [...] Continue Reading…

Orlando, FL, United States (AHN) – American and Canadian cities were in the 10 top worst dressed cities list compiled by MSN Travel. On top of the list is Orlando, Florida, where Disney World is located. Orlando topped the list because of the prevalence of soccer moms with bad haircuts, jean shorts and Gap T-shirts, fathers with big bellies showing in overhanging shirts and wearing Teva sandals, and children in dirty clothes. Song opined that cartoon character Minnie Mouse is the best-dressed woman in Orlando with her red-and-white polka dot dress. Author Vivian Song, who made the list, said she was inspired by a GQ magazine article that ranked the worst-dressed cities in the U.S. She insisted that the website does not consider itself the fashion police, but sloppiness and tastelessness needs to be cited. Other American cities on the list were: [...] Continue Reading…
